Dental Exit Partners at Farther

Design your dental exit before a buyer does

We specialize in working with dental practice owners planning an exit, weighing a DSO offer, or past a liquidity event. The work on your practice, your household, and your deal starts years ahead and extends years after.

An authority in dental practice exits, built at the kitchen table

Dental Exit Partners began at home. Tim McNeely is married to Dana, a practicing dentist, and for years their kitchen table was where dentistry and wealth planning met: practice economics, real estate, operating entities, and several generations of needs across both families. The CPA, the attorney, and the advisor were each doing good work in their own lane.

So Tim and Dana built what they needed: one coordinated, multi-generational wealth structure that brings every family line, property, and entity under a single plan. That lived experience, joined with Tim's training as a CFP®, CIMA®, CEPA®, and CPFA® and three decades around business ownership that began in his father's office at 16, became the foundation of this team at Farther in 2024.

Questions owners ask us first

You have built something significant, and the decisions ahead are unfamiliar and permanent. These are the questions practice owners bring to the first conversation. We answer them the same way we would across the table: plainly, with one clear point of view and no hedging.

When should I start planning my exit?

Earlier than most owners think. The moves that matter most, including entity structure, tax positioning, and retirement plan design, typically need 12 to 36 months of runway. The best time to start is before you have an offer in hand, while every lever is still open to you.

I already have a CPA and an attorney. Why do I need you?

Your CPA and attorney are likely doing excellent work in their own lanes. The gap is rarely competence, it is coordination. We hold the whole picture and lead your professionals as one team, so their advice fits together before decisions are made rather than after.

How do I know if a DSO offer is a good one?

The headline number is only the start. We break the offer into cash at close, rollover equity, earnout terms, employment obligations, and after-tax proceeds, so you can compare offers on what you actually keep instead of what the cover page advertises.

What happens on an exploratory call?

A short conversation, usually about 30 minutes. You tell us where you are with the practice and what you are trying to solve. We tell you plainly whether we are the right fit, and if we are not, we point you toward someone who is.

Do you work with owners who aren't planning to sell soon?

Yes. Many of the owners we work with are years from a transition, and some are still growing through acquisitions or partnerships. Planning early gives you more options, whatever the eventual path looks like.

The Dental Exit Stress Test

We examine your wealth the way you would examine a patient: the complete picture, not one tooth. Then we build the plan that gets you to the closing table with nothing left exposed. Here is how the work moves, from the first diagnostic to the day the plan is running and your professionals are pulling in the same direction.

Five places wealth breaks down before a sale

We test the five places a dental owner's wealth breaks down before a transaction: how your money is managed, how your taxes are mitigated, how your wealth is protected and transferred, how your giving is structured, and whether your professionals work as one team or in six silos.

The Stress Test surfaces them while there is still time to act, before a buyer's diligence catches them for you.

Your financial life on one page

You get the full-mouth series of your financial life on one page, plus a written treatment plan. Every gap is ranked by what it could be costing you, who closes it, and in what order.

The Blueprint is a diagnostic, not a pitch deck. You can hand it to your CPA and attorney and act on it the same week, with clear owners and a clear sequence for each item.

One disciplined formula, sequenced around your exit

Every gap is closed through one formula: Wealth Management is Investment Consulting plus Advanced Planning plus Relationship Management. Investment Consulting builds a portfolio around your goals at the minimum necessary risk.

Advanced Planning covers tax mitigation, wealth transfer, asset protection, and charitable planning, all sequenced around the exit. Relationship Management keeps the professionals in your corner aligned, so no decision gets made in isolation.

Your CPA, your attorney, and your advisor as one team

Most exits break down on coordination before they break down on competence. We hold the whole picture and lead your existing professionals so their advice fits together before decisions are made, with both spouses at the table.

Owners regularly walk into a career-defining transaction with three professionals who have never spoken to each other. We start the coordination years ahead, so the value you built is structured, protected, and transferred the way you intend.

What we handle for you

Exit planning and DSO transaction strategy

We prepare your practice and your personal balance sheet years before a sale, then help you evaluate the full offer: cash at close, rollover equity, earnouts, and employment terms, so you can see exactly what you keep.

Tax mitigation and advanced planning

We coordinate with your CPA on entity structure, timing, and the treatment of sale proceeds, so tax planning happens while the levers are still open and nothing is locked in by default.

Investment consulting

We build and manage diversified, tax-aware portfolios designed to fund your goals at the minimum necessary risk, including the reinvestment of proceeds from a liquidity event.

Wealth transfer and asset protection

We work alongside your estate attorney to align trusts, beneficiary designations, and ownership structures so your wealth is protected during your lifetime and transferred on your terms.

Qualified plan design and oversight

We design, review, and repair practice retirement plans, including 401(k) and cash balance plans, in coordination with your plan administrator, so elected deferrals and employer contributions work as hard for you as for your team.

Practice real estate strategy

We align the building with the deal, working through 1031 exchanges, DSTs, and UPREIT structures so the real estate you own is positioned before the transaction, not scrambled after it.

Pre-sale charitable planning

We structure giving before the sale closes, including donor advised funds and charitable remainder trusts, so the intent you hold is built into the deal rather than bolted on once the levers have closed.

Roth conversion strategy

We model Roth conversions around a liquidity event, using the years of lower income that often surround an exit to position future tax-free growth on your terms.

The advisor across the table

Dental Exit Partners is led by Tim McNeely, an advisor who understands ownership from the inside, has sat at the closing table many times, and speaks your language because it is the language spoken at home.
